Summary: Ultimate Spiderman Aloha! Huge fan of the Ultimate Spiderman series, and this fic was inspired by a line from the conclusion of the clone saga. A brief moment between Peter and Jessica before they are divided. Short and sweet. Note, AU!

The most awkward hug in history

Jessica smiled a beautiful angelic smile that Peter wouldn't have noticed before in her costume. In that smile he was struck with realisation that she wasn't his clone, she was her own person. At that thought William's words came flooding back into memory, words that brought a smile to his lips

"A person's origins does not decide their fate Peter, it is one's actions that decides their destiny, the future isn't written in stone"

Gazing into her eyes Peter was offered yet more proof that they were different, whilst his eyes had darkened in grief and anger hers remain almost golden, shining with their retained innocence.

"Ready for the most awkward hug in history?" she laughed, before raising her arms and wrapping them around his shoulders, burying her nose into his collar drinking in his scent and balling her clothes up in his fists. Peter retuned the action, snaking his arm around her waist while the other came to rest on the back of her head, allowing the soft brown hair to gently fall between his fingers. Peter rested his cheek against the top of her head, and as one their eyes closed, both of them content for the moment, their trained ears listening to the other's heartbeat.

"This isn't so awkward" Peter mumbled softly,

"No, it's nice" Jessica replied after a moment, her words muffed into his shoulder. The two stayed there for a long moment, oblivious to the world around them, or the eyes watching them from within the darkness. Said eyes belonged to the man without neither name nor purpose, who simply smiled and walked away. The hug seemed to last a lifetime, and within moments Jessica began to feel tempted, the offer of a family, of friends, of a place to belong taunted her. So without a goodbye, she leapt away, running away from her past and towards a future born to tears.
